A Nightful of Mages

After a cosmic disaster changed everything, bringing with it a planet-wide epidemic of ghosts, demons, and imps, some good, some bad, and some downright awful, Billy Harrowby's future was set. He developed a unique talent that guaranteed him one occupation. Paranormal civil servant. His job? Make specters behave themselves.

Still, it wasn't so bad. He was naturally respectful, understanding and sympathetic. In addition, having a beautiful spirit guide helped a lot.

Then a request came from abroad. England needed him. However, the job involved travel and he hated to travel. Also, the job sounded dangerous, and he was naturally timid. So, given its importance, his employer enticed, argued, threatened and then blackmailed him. If he wanted to have a job doing anything else, yes, he could quit. If he wanted to stay working, though, in what he was good at... he was getting on a plane.
