A Life's Purpose

Lula Darling and her mother, Ella Mae, have escaped the terrors of slavery in the deep antebellum South and are now living on Chicago's South Side. After being transported through time and space into the present, they have finally found a new life and the freedom that they had hoped and prayed for. But life in the twenty-first century is anything but safe or easy. After surviving the bondages and horrors of slavery, Ella Mae is now suffering from post-traumatic stress and is experiencing nightmares. Lula has begun to fight as an activist and leader against racial injustice, police brutality, and the plight of the poor. When she begins a movement, it leads to new, unexpected fears and dangers. Now, Chicago's vicious gangs and drug dealers want her dead and top-level agencies are watching her every move. But despite the terrifying risks and perils of taking a stand, Lula is more determined than ever to spread a universal message of hope, and save humanity from spiraling out of control.
