About This Book

This is a tense and terrific tale of a horrible, threatening death. It describes, first of all, the carrying out, after the close of World War II, of certain laboratory studies in bacteriological warfare. These cold-blooded experiments with the deadly plague bacillus are described with a kind of detailed knowledge and authority that is startling. Then the author begins to reveal the effect of these experiments upon the scientists at work, upon their characters, their lives, their brains, until a cloud of dreadful death resembling one of their batches of plague germs seems to circle about them. When the mounting tension of this fantastic but all too real situation does finally explode, it is with ghastly unexpectedness and swiftness that the threats of death are fulfilled.
