A Hard Light

Investigative filmmaker Maggie MacGowen's past catches up with her when Vietnamese expatriate Khanh Nguyen asks for help in finding a man. Maggie's only link with the Vietnamese community is the one person she won't touch with a ten-foot pole--her ex-husband, Scotty. But she needs a distraction while she ponders life's big "M" words, as in Marriage to Mike Flint, her L.A.P.D. homicide detective lover; and Moving, now that someone has offered to buy the house she left behind in San Francisco.

The missing person is Bao Ngo, a scholar who escaped Vietnam at the end of the war only to vanish--along with a fortune in art. Now a twenty-year web of intrigue, lies, and betrayals is about to trap everyone it touches, including Maggie, her daughter, Casey, her ex-husband, and Khanh. The closer Maggie moves to Boo and the missing treasure, the closer she gets to a truth that will force her to take a hard look inside her own heart ... a truth as devastating as it is deadly.
