Born in 1874, she moved to Baltimore when orphaned in 1891. She lived an interesting life and had a long literary career. Her friends included the Cone sisters, who introduced her to the Paris arts and letters salon scene, which she tried to replicate in the U.S. Her love triangles and relationship with Alice B. Toklas are legendary.
