About This Book
An empowering tale of representation, teamwork, and an adult getting a great idea from a child. Experience the joys of entrepreneurship with eight year old Mia, who helps grow her family's business on the weekends. When Mia comes up with a new idea, her support team of family and friends work together and create something bigger than anyone ever expected. Authors Note: "When I was a little girl I had a lot of energy. This was before the internet and cell phones, so I spent a lot of time running around outside with friends. We sometimes tried to make our own money and sold candy bars, and lemonade, and cookies door to door for school fundraisers to earn prizes. I spent most my alone time wishing I was older so I could get a job and have my own money, and pay for the things I wanted. After I graduated college, I worked in many management positions in very large companies. But then one day I realized that I worked so hard and waited so long to be an adult and get an office job, but all I wanted to do was have my own business, work when and how I wanted to, and make my own money doing what I loved doing. This is when I became a business owner, and spent years learning how to be a better and better one. I realized that if someone told me I could have started my business as a kid, I would have. And by the time I was an adult I would have been an expert. My daughters, now age 2 and 5, have watched me run multiple businesses, and now operate their own businesses and individual business bank accounts. I wrote "A Doll Like Me" children's book to give other little girls the same insight and advantage of having an entrepreneurial mindset at a young age, as my girls have. "
