About This Book

When Tracy is alone at their bungalow in a game reserve one evening, she sees a distant flickering light that she knows should not be there. The light seems to draw her towards it and make her think of Johnny, so she almost walks out into the veld to investigate where it is shining from. Only the deepening shadows of the night and the plaintive calls from the black backed jackals, prevent her from doing this.
But when Jake and Lilly later return from their game drive and she tells them about how she felt, Jake tells her that her imagination is playing tricks on her.
Only later, Jake tells Lilly that his mother once said something similar, after she'd seen a light. He then also tells Lilly a bit of family history about the game reserve, that neither she nor Tracy is aware of.
A couple of nights later, when Tracy again sees the light and still feels drawn towards it, she becomes determined to find out where the light is shining from, in spite of a dire warning from their game ranger, who says that rhino and elephant now live down that way.
Then a few days later, after detecting the smell of smoke on the wind,Tracy decides she had better investigate this. While she's out searching for any signs of a veld fire, she discovers an animal path that leads down towards the light and decides to follow it, -in spite of the fact that she is still picking up the scent of a grass fire burning close by.
After a time she sees a figure that looks suspiciously like Johnny walking through the long thatch grass ahead of her. She decides to follow this figure. -and what happens after this changes everything in her life, forever.
