"Kitty" Whitchurch was the epitome of a high-spirited young filly whose energy and independence constantly provoked the upper ten thousand.

Despite her extreme reluctance, Kitty had decided the time had come for the dreaded step of marriage. Her impoverished situation demanded it--she deplored the very idea. Nevertheless, with her resourceful wit and all the determination at her disposal, she engaged to find herself a husband.

Lord Nathan Hatherleigh, with his wicked ways and provoking manner, became the fly in Kitty's ointment. When he calmly suggested that she could no more land a husband than a fish, she promptly took up the challenge with excess enthusiasm. She was more determined than ever. Little did she know that Lord Hatherleigh was just as determined to succeed in keeping her singularly unattached!
