Rex Standford needed someone to help nurse his invalid mother, and when he learned that Dunoon Alexander was between jobs he offered her the post forthwith. Rex hadn't consulted his brother Jeff on the subject - but Jeff, as it turned out, had plenty to say! He made it perfectly clear from the start that he thought very little of Dunoon or her capabilities; and was heavily backed up by the glamorous Manthe Mainwaring, who saw Dunoon only as competition to be got rid of. And not all the beauty of her surrounding - the lovely tropical island of Pero Cosmos - could stop Dunoon from caring more and more about what Jeff thought of her!
