Miss Leonora Clare had fled to Cheltenham to avoid playing a role for which she was unsuited.

She was no more suited to the role she had been engaged to play in an amateur theatrical, but it did bring her into close proximity with Mr. Richard Forrester, the man with whom she had fallen in love, though she knew little about him.

She had never suspected that Richard had planned a surprise ending for their comedy and a new beginning for their love.
