It has been more than ten years since Andrew Keane's Union regiment was mysteriously pulled away from the Civil War and marooned in time on a hostile alien planet. Now in a desperate winter campaign, they strike a fierce blow against the advancing Bantag army.

The Bantag's bloodthirsty leader, Ha'ark, has issued his order: crush Keane and take the capital of Roum before spring. But it is a costly strategy for the Bantag, whose supply lines are being stretched to the limit and whose commanders are beginning to crack. And as citizens and soldiers prepare for a siege of Roum, Keane must battle factions that would destroy the Republic from within and surrender the human race to the Bantag hoard...and certain extinction.
