Rod was effectively an environmentalist and a survivalist and he had a plan. A good friend of his from way back had bought a farm in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, below Granada. Rod payed him a visit, loved the area and bought the neighboring farm. He faced a considerable diversion, he'd recently fallen for a beautiful girl in Kharkov Ukraine and intended to take her with him when he moved to Spain.
He faced a sizable journey in collecting her from Kharkov, he home city and faced a very long drive north in doing so. As far as Rod was concerned she was well worth it. What he hadn't reckoned on was the driving conditions, the worst he'd ever experienced. Almost as soon as he set off and reached the main road he'd need to follow he realized that he was up against it. Within days he was thinking of it as The Road From Hell and in many respects it was.
Rod and Anastasia remained in contact with each other on a daily basis and it helped a lot from Rod's point of view, he was already deeply in love with her, even though the days they'd spent together had been few.
Despite the grueling conditions Rod felt no regrets, though was fearful and the sooner he could pick her up the better he'd feel. That heavy weather and worse was heading mankind's way he was sure of and the farm in Spain was where he wanted to be
