In the fourth book of the series, the clans are coming together for the Gathering that happens every four years. This is a much looked-forward to event, meeting friends, learning, trading and lots of amusements. Chaiko hopes to learn about the spirit world from the older shamans. He learns, but not what he expected. The clans are in turmoil under the autocratic leadership of the Head Shaman, and they try to balance among various factions; Chaiko becomes the focus for change. However he is dogged by intrigue and gets embroiled in an all-out power struggle. With the Gathering in full swing, the clans interact with each other, resolve issues and make decisions for the next four years. For most people, however, it is time for fun, renewing friendships and a respite from work.
